CoilMate® Reel Primer

PLAIN REELS

Plain (non-motorized) Stock Reels are designed for payoff of coil stock by the power of related equipment such as powered straighteners, pinch rolls, or rollformers. They are not suited for direct uncoiling to feeding devices where the intermittent jerking action against the coil would prevent accuracy and smooth operation. Plain reels are furnished with drag brakes to maintain tension between the coil and pulling equipment. The brakes retard coasting and smooth the flow of the material between units. Since the output speed is unaffected by the diminishing coil size, synchronized control with related equipment is easy to maintain. As such, they are the most popular answer to high production uncoiling requirements.

MOTORIZED REELS

Motorized stock reels are used for powered payoff of coil stock direct to intermittent devices such as press feeds equipped with pull-through straighteners. By providing material in slack form to such devices, they do not detract from accuracy and production rates. However, since the rotating mandrel of the reel is driving the coil from it's core, the changing speed ratio from full coil to I.D. can make line synchronization awkward. Motorized reels must not only supply slack material, but control it dependably. Thus they are equipped with loop control devices. These devices may turn the motor on and off, engage or disengage a clutch, or vary the spindle speed. All CoilMate® / Dickerman® motorized reels also have brakes to help control overrun.

DOUBLE SPINDLE REELS

Double Reels allow one side to be loaded while the other side is paying off stock saving up to 80% of coil loading time. When the operational coil is depleted, the reel head is simply indexed, either manually or powered, 180° to bring the new coil into its payoff position. Double reels are available in manual or various motorized configurations depending on application. With the addition of hold-down arms to each mandrel assembly, the double ended reel is also ideal for running partial coils.
